BP is one of the most successful energy companies in the world, operating on a global scale with projects in over 80 countries. Due to its substantial size and multiple locations, BP have a broad list of career opportunities and graduate schemes on offer. As gaining a place on one of their graduate schemes can be extremely competitive, psychometric testing is adopted during the recruitment process, as a means of screening out candidates who lack the abilities necessary for a career in this area. Typically, candidates are asked to complete numerical, verbal and diagrammatic reasoning tests, although this may differ slightly for some positions. Candidates are informed in advance as to which tests they will be required to take.
BP reasoning tests are provided by Saville. The function of these tests is to screen out candidates without adequate numerical, verbal and diagrammatic ability, although higher level positions may require additional testing. BP’s core values consist of: Courage, Excellence, One Team, Respect and Safety.
BP numerical reasoning tests
Numerical reasoning tests are a key part of BP's assessment. These tests evaluate your quantitative skills, data interpretation abilities, and problem-solving aptitude. Get ready for questions involving percentages, ratios, charts, and graphs. You'll need to work efficiently under pressure, as the tests are timed. The test may be 12 questions in total, split into 3 sets of 4 questions with a time limit of 3 minutes for each set.
BP verbal reasoning tests
Verbal reasoning tests assess your comprehension skills, your ability to understand and analyse written information, and draw logical conclusions. Get ready to tackle passages and answer questions based on the given text. These tests evaluate your critical thinking, reading comprehension, and reasoning skills. The test may be 12 questions in total, split into 3 sets of 4 questions with a time limit of 3 minutes for each set.
BP situational judgement tests
In addition to numerical and verbal reasoning tests, BP may include Situational Judgment Tests (SJT). SJTs assess your ability to evaluate and respond to realistic work scenarios. You'll be presented with hypothetical situations and asked to choose the most appropriate actions or responses. SJTs evaluate your decision-making skills, judgment, and alignment with BP's core values.
I had to take an SJT for BP. I did okay after the practise, would recommend AD to others

BP Application Process Stages
Stage 1
Application | Applications are made online and require candidates to provide their contact details, education and work experience. This is to ensure that the candidate meets the entry requirements for their selected role. Once the application has been submitted, the candidate should be informed within two working days, as to whether they have met the necessary requirements to proceed to the next stage. |

Stage 2
Testing | Successful applicants are then invited to complete online tests to assess their cognitive abilities and suitability for the company. The tests BP use will be a combination of numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and situational judgement tests. If you excel in the online tests, you'll progress to the interview stage of BP's application process. |
---|
Stage 3
Interviews | BP typically conducts several rounds of interviews, each with a different focus and format. The first round often includes competency-based interviews. These interviews explore your skills, experiences, and behaviors through targeted questions. Showcasing specific examples from your past experiences, highlight your achievements and demonstrate how you embody BP's desired competencies. Successful candidates may proceed to the second round, which may involve a technical interview. These interviews assess your technical knowledge, expertise, and problem-solving abilities related to your specific field or role within BP. Expect industry-specific questions and be prepared to solve case studies or present technical solutions. |

Answered questions
Are these tests suitable for BP?
Yes, our tests will help you sharpen your numerical and verbal skills. The format of the tests will not be exactly the same. Our tests are longer, and are not split into the short 4 x 3 test sets that BPs tests often are.
How difficult are your tests?
The same difficulty as real tests. Generally real employer selection tests don't differ that much in terms of difficulty which is why they compare your score against norm groups. Our practice tests are pitched roughly at graduate level, but this means they are actually suitable for preparing for all levels of job: entry; apprentice; graduate; senior; director.
Are they compatible with my Mac / Tablet / Phone?
Yes, and PC, and Linux and smartphone and Android and...everything. Our practice tests will run on all systems and they are responsive so they will work well on tablets and smartphones too!
How many times can I take the tests?
Unlimited. You can take our practice tests as many times as you like; there is no limit. But to be honest, after taking the same test a few times you start to remember the answers, so that’s why we have lots of tests.
