Psychometric Test Survival Tips

More and more businesses are incorporating online aptitude tests into the recruitment process. For them, a psychometric test is a simple, easily quantifiable way to separate the most apt candidates from the less able. For potential employees, this extra layer of testing can be challenging, and requires its own dedicated preparation strategy, markedly different to how you might prepare for a “traditional” style interview.

Most of us are very familiar with exams and testing. Much of our school life is spent either preparing for or completing exams. In more recent times, pupils are even required, from time to time, to complete psychometric tests, such as verbal reasoning or numerical reasoning tests.

We may rejoice in the fact that, as adults, we are no longer obliged to complete  such laborious and challenging assessments, however we perhaps rejoice too soon. More and more employers are requiring applicants to complete online aptitude tests, and so, chances are, you’re exam days aren’t quite over. If faced with an aptitude test there is no need to panic. There is plenty you can do to increase your chances in the exam, such as:

Practise. It’s an obvious one, however it is perhaps the most potent piece of advice. With lots of practise tests available online, there is no excuse to not rehearse.

Know the Test Publisher. Different aptitude test publishers will have different tests, so it is worth ringing up your examiner and getting as much info as you can regarding your test.
